FAQ

Common questions.
Straight answers.

Real questions we get every week from the diaspora community. If your question isn't here, email [email protected].

How do I send money to Ethiopia from New Zealand?

Download the SelamPay iOS app, verify your NZ ID once, add your family in Ethiopia as a recipient with their Telebirr number or CBE account, and send. The money arrives in Telebirr in minutes or in CBE the same business day.

How much does SelamPay charge?

A flat fee of NZ$2.50 (or AU$2.50 equivalent) per transfer. The exchange rate is the real mid-market rate from the National Bank of Ethiopia, refreshed every 60 seconds — we add no FX margin.

How long do transfers take?

Telebirr transfers usually land in 2–5 minutes. CBE bank deposit lands the same business day if sent before 5pm NZ time, otherwise the next business day.

Is SelamPay licensed in New Zealand?

Yes. SelamPay is the customer-facing brand of Brhan Enterprise Limited (NZBN 9429050359004), a registered Financial Service Provider on the New Zealand FSP register, number FSP1005151.

Is SelamPay licensed in Australia?

Yes. Brhan Enterprise Limited is enrolled with AUSTRAC as a registered remittance provider. The enrolment number is published in the footer once finalised.

What countries can I send to?

Ethiopia is live today, via Telebirr and CBE bank deposit. Eritrea, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Africa are rolling out quarter by quarter — every new corridor launched with a real banking partner on each side.

Can my recipient pick up cash?

Cash pickup via partner agents in Ethiopia is planned for Q1. Today, transfers go to Telebirr wallets or CBE bank accounts.

Do I get a receipt?

Yes. Every transfer generates a PDF receipt with the NBE-compliant reference, suitable for visa, immigration and tax purposes.

What if something goes wrong with my transfer?

Email [email protected] or call our Auckland office. We are a small team and reply within hours, in English or Amharic.
